vogelpresse

A little while ago, the Süddeutsche ran a special on high end book printing. I’ve been pushing for more multimedia content in our digital edition for a while, so when they asked me to go and do a story on Annette Vogel, a graphic designer-turned-book artist, I used the opportunity to shoot video as well. I was on location for four hours and edited for another five or so. I think this is a perfect example of how you can take a small assignment and really enrich it with just a little extra work.

pumpkin palooza

Before you know it it’s fall, your last blog post is four months old (the last one with photos even older…), and pumpkin season is rolling around again. What can I say? I’m not going to say anything, since I don’t have an excuse for not blogging so long except that I had retreated from the digital world for a while. Beth and I went to the Kunst & Kürbis festival last Saturday, which translates to arts and pumpkins. You probably guessed it by now – lots of crafts, arts and pumpkins. Here are the shots, this time without captions:

munich underground

Just a short post today with a photo I shot of the Munich underground for a story about public transport a while back:

christmas is in the air

Here’s another shot from a recent assignment. I had to get a feature of one of the Christmas markets that are all over Munich now. The paper ended up running a different picture, but I really love the moment here. There was this little Santa Claus on a bike that kept riding back and forth over a wire above people’s heads. When the little girls came, they were so amazed by it, they just stood there with their mouths open, holding each other’s hand, and watched it for what seemed to be an eternity. The moment kind of makes me jealous to be a child again, when something as simple as Santa on a bike can make your day…

Children stand and watch in awe as a tin-Santa Claus on a little bike wheels back and forth across a wire at Neuhauser Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas market) at Rotkreuzplatz in Munich. Wednesday, December 5, 2012.
