Single Flash

Here’s my bounce picture:

Single Flash (Bounce)

Satisha Jogaiah and his wife Latha Mangala from Pune, India, prepare a traditional south Indian dinner in their apartment on West Broadway. They came to Columbia on August 12th, 2008, after Jogaiah, a senior scientist of the Indian National Research Center for Grapes in Pune, was invited by the Institute of Continental Climate for Viticulture and Enology to conduct a two-year research on a certain kind of grape. Although they enjoy their time in the U.S., both of them miss their home and families, especially when something important like a death or a marriage happens. “We feel we should be there, sharing their joy and sorrow,” Jogaiah says. Having traditional food every day helps them cope with their homesickness.

Barbara Michael, 53, is a medical librarian at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia. In her spare time, she leads the pet ministry of her church, the Unity Center of Columbia. “Spirituality is probably the defining force in my life,” she says. “I’m one who is desiring to be in deeper awareness of her oneness with god.”

Kevin Roberts

Kevin Roberts, 21, of St. Louis studies photojournalism in his senior year at the Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia, Mo. “The fact that I can start a day with just an idea of an assignment and then finish it with something totally new that I’ve never seen before” is what drives him in this profession. He thinks of himself as a by-the-rule person, and journalism gives him the comfort of clear, moral guidelines to be followed. “That fits into my character,” Roberts says.

back home

On 13th of August I touched familiar soil in Munich after my first flight on 12th was cancelled due to the attempted terrorist attacks in England. These days I’m busy printing a selection of the pictures I shot in Delhi. They will be presented in an exhibition of German institutes of photography at the Photokina in hall 1 from 26th of September. Some of the pictures can also be seen in a virtual exhibition of young photography in Germany, organised by GEO.
