I just went through my archive to prepare my POYi entry, and found these pictures of Grand Canyon that I meant to post for a long time:

I’m really starting to like cell phone photography. Last weekend, a few friends of mine and I toured the brewery Ottenbräu in my hometown before feasting on some roasted ducks at a nearby restaurant. I knew that I was going to have a few beers that evening and didn’t want to worry about my M9 all night long, so I left it at home. When we got to the brewery, however, I really wanted to take pictures. Robert, the owner, had just moved the production from the old brewery to a brand new one. The old brewery dates back to the beginning of the 20th century and is extremely photogenic. I started taking pictures with my phone, using the Retro Camera App for Android. Even though it doesn’t perform very well in low light, I really like the outcome. Here’s what I got:

The old malt crusher.

Fermentation tank.

Distributing pump in the fermentation cellar.

An old clock inside the brewery.

Owner Robert Neumaier pours a Doppelbock from the fermentation tank at the new brewery.

Earlier this week I was on a job in Rome assisting Munich-based photographer Markus Tedeskino. We arrived early and used Monday afternoon to explore the two-and-a-half-thousand-year-old city that shaped so much of our modern culture and society. Here are some of my favorite shots from that day.

A horse carriage rolls through the narrow alleys near the Piazza Margana.

Tourists study a map at the Via dei Fori Imperiali near the Colosseum.

Passers-by check out the display of a fruit vendor at the Via dei Fori Imperiali that leads up to the Colosseum.

People gather around a living statue at the Via dei Fori Imperiali.
